HOMEWORK #4

A lot of the vocabulary (Elements of Art and Principles of Design) we are learning about are used/known in other areas outside of the fine arts (painting, drawing, sculpture). Post a comment here listing AT LEAST 5 examples EACH of other places you have heard the words "line", "texture", and "contrast" used. TRY YOUR BEST NOT TO REPEAT answers from your classmates!

9 comments:

  1. Clothing/Fashion World- I believe the use of line in the design, texture in fabrics and contrast in colors.

Food/Quisine - You hear alot about the texture of food, for example some people may like the taste of a banana, but because of the texture, they do not eat it.

Media - Im not sure if media might be considered an art, but I think that contrast in lighting/colors in the movies would be an example.

Interior/Exterior Design - I have heard of line, texture and contrast being used in this field, like line of a room drawing a person to the focal point, texture of walls or brick, contrast of lighting/colors of paint.

Natural Elements - The texture of trees, leaves, plants, animals. Possibly even contrast, like the sun breaking thru dark clouds.

Texture: in a paint store when your picking out a paint, a fabric store when you choosing a piece of fabric to do something pacific with, in a food tasting event telling someone how it feels and tastes, hardwared store when you buying sandpaper, at home walking on the floor letting someone know how the floor feels

  4. Lines- Backyard landscaping- the way it was planted, grouped together, and both horizontal and verical planes. Family picture- the lines in the background creates pattern, set a mood and provide a visual texture.

Texture- Raised-Bed Rock Garden- its was circles stones filled with soil.

Contrast- Flowers in front of the church- it was the colors, shapes, and branch patterns that gave it, its contrast.

I choose the television media, mainly political. The "Lines are drawn" or walking of the "hard line." The texture of a political party, or that of a personality. The contrast of views on a certain subject.
If I have this wrong, I have heard the terms in design of automobiles and motorcycles. The lines of the structure and the texture, contrast of the paint and or the interior.
